CECC confirms 66,283 more COVID-19 cases, including 66,247 domestic cases and 36 imported cases

On May 23, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 66,283 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 66,283 new cases, 66,247 are domestic and 36 are imported (29 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced 40 deaths today.

Regarding the 66,247 new domestic cases, 31,588 are male and 34,625 are female, while the gender of the other 34 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years.

Of those domestic cases, 15,708 were reported in New Taipei City, 8,636 in Taoyuan City, 7,286 in Kaohsiung City, 7,185 in Taipei City, 7,140 in Taichung City, 4,501 in Tainan City, 1,979 in Changhua County, 1,973 in Pingtung County, 1,927 in Hsinchu County, 1,478 in Keelung City, 1,473 in Yilan County, 1,300 in Hsinchu City, 1,130 in Miaoli County, 1,033 in Hualien County, 906 in Yunlin County, 843 in Nantou County, 568 in Chiayi County, 549 in Taitung County, 317 in Chiayi City, 159 in Penghu County, 119 in Kinmen County, and 37 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 40 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 30 men and 10 women ranging in age from under five to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 36 new imported cases, they were 20 men and 16 women ranging in age from 10 to 79 years. The areas these cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between May 20 and 22, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 10,351,305 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,960,960. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1,386,640 cases. Of the 1,386,640 confirmed cases, 12,559 are imported; 1,374,027 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 1,436 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 1,436 deaths, 1,421 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
