CECC confirms 1 more imported COVID-19 case; male case returns to Taiwan from the US to visit relatives

On August 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced one new confirmed imported case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The new case is a Taiwanese male in his teens (Case #485). The case resided in the United States for a long time (his most recent date of departure from Taiwan was in September of 2019). The case returned to Taiwan to visit his family members on August 5.

The case has not developed suspected symptoms since his entry into Taiwan. The local health authority collected his specimen on August 15. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 17. The case is currently hospitalized in isolation for medical treatment.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 84,704 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 83,648. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 485 cases. Of 485 confirmed cases in Taiwan, 393 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship, and 1 case has yet to be determined.
