CECC confirms 3 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases enter Taiwan from Philippines and Ukraine


On October 9, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those three cases are a Filipino man in his 20s (Case #525), a Filipina in her 30s (Case #526), and a Ukrainian man in his 30s (Case #527). They arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines and Ukraine.

Case #525 took a flight to Taiwan from the Philippines for work on September 24. The case showed no symptoms upon arrival. Before completing the quarantine period at a group quarantine facility, the case underwent COVID-19 testing on October 7. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 9. The case is currently hospitalized in isolation.

Case #526 entered Taiwan from the Philippines for work on September 24. The case was asymptomatic when arriving in Taiwan. Before completing the quarantine period at a group quarantine facility, the case underwent COVID-19 testing on October 7. As the test result was weak positive, she was given another coronavirus test on October 8. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 9. The case is currently hospitalized in isolation.

Case #527 entered Taiwan from Ukraine for work on September 22. He completed the home quarantine period on October 7. The company for which he worked arranged a COVID-19 test at his own expense. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 9. The case is currently hospitalized in isolation.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 96,280 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 94,864. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 527 cases. Of the 527 confirmed cases, 435 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; and 1 case has unknown sources of infection. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 488 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 32 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
