CECC confirms 68,769 more COVID-19 cases, including 68,732 domestic cases and 37 imported cases

On May 15, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 68,769 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 68,769 new cases, 68,732 are domestic and 37 are imported (23 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced 19 deaths today.

Regarding the 68,732 new domestic cases, 32,706 are male and 36,003 are female, while the gender of the other 23 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 22,891 were reported in New Taipei City, 11,701 in Taipei City, 9,675 in Taoyuan City, 4,029 in Taichung City, 3,882 in Kaohsiung City, 2,474 in Tainan City, 2,122 in Keelung City, 1,871 in Hsinchu County, 1,871 in Yilan County, 1,408 in Changhua County, 1,312 in Hsinchu City, 1,299 in Pingtung County, 1,065 in Hualien County, 883 in Miaoli County, 649 in Yunlin County, 466 in Nantou County, 368 in Chiayi County, 332 in Taitung County, 193 in Chiayi City, 120 in Kinmen County, 115 in Penghu County, and six in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 19 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 12 men and seven women ranging in age from 70 to above 90 years. They were severe cases and had chronic diseases.

Regarding the 37 new imported cases, 20 are male and 10 are female, while the gender of the other seven is under investigation. They range in age from under 10 to 69 years. The areas these cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between April 29 and May 14, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 9,558,371 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,786,521. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 768,543 cases. Of the 768,543 confirmed cases, 12,206 are imported; 756,283 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 1,068 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 1068 deaths, 1,053 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
