On July 10, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The two cases are an over 20-year-old female (Case #450) and an over 50-year-old male (Case #451).

Case #450 worked in the United States for a long time (the last time Case #450 departed from Taiwan was October of 2018) and returned to Taiwan on July 5, 2020. Case #450 was asymptomatic when she returned to Taiwan. She experienced fatigue and muscle aches on July 7. Health agencies arranged her medical care and COVID-19 testing on July 8. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 10. A total of 35 individuals who came into contact with her have been identified.

Case #451 worked in Oman for a long time (the last time Case #451 departed from Taiwan was November of 2019). The case had a fever on July 2. He only took antipyretics and didn’t seek medical attention in Oman. He voluntarily reported his symptoms to quarantine officers at the airport when returning to Taiwan on July 8. After the quarantine officers arranged his testing, the case was transported to a group quarantine facility. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 10. The case is currently hospitalized in isolation for medical treatment. A total of 39 individuals who came into contact with the case have been identified.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 78,212 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 77,214. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 451 cases. Of 451 confirmed cases in Taiwan, 360 are imported and 55 are indigenous while 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship.
