CECC confirms 12 more imported cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from the Philippines, India, and Uganda


On May 13, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 12 new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those 12 new cases arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines (Cases #1233-1236 and Case #1238), India (Cases #1239-1244), and Uganda (Case #1237).

Cases #1233-1236 are four over 20-year-old male migrant workers from the Philippines. The male migrant workers traveled to Taiwan for work on April 20. They were tested for COVID-19 on May 3, before completing the quarantine period, and the test results came back negative. They visited the hospital to take self-paid tests on May 11. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 13 (the four migrant workers had CT values of 34, 30, 30, and 34, respectively).

Case #1238 is an over 30-year-old female from the Philippines. She traveled to Taiwan for work on April 28. She was tested on May 11 before completing the quarantine period, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 13.

Cases #1239-1244 are five Taiwanese nationals and one Indian national. They returned to Taiwan from India on May 11. They were tested for COVID-19 the same day, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on May 13.

Case #1237 is a Taiwanese male in his 40s. He returned to Taiwan from Uganda on April 16. He experienced a sore throat on May 9 and developed a fever, an abnormal sense of smell, and other symptoms on May 11. Thus, she later visited the hospital to seek medical attention and undergo testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 13 (The CT value was 33).
