CECC confirms 1,480 more COVID-19 cases, including 1,390 domestic cases and 90 imported cases

On April 18, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 1,480 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 1,480 new cases, 1,390 are domestic and 90 are imported (63 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the 1,390 new domestic cases, 699 are male and 687 are female while the gender of the other four is still under investigation. They range in age from under five to 99 years. They suffered the onset of symptoms between April 6 and April 18, while 715 of them didn't develop symptoms. Of those domestic cases, 500 were reported in New Taipei City, 270 in Taipei City, 187 in Taoyuan City, 115 in Keelung City, 68 in Yilan County, 57 in Hualien County, 41 in Taichung City, 31 in Kaohsiung City, 21 each in Tainan City and Pingtung County, 20 in Hsinchu City, 14 in Taitung County, 13 in Hsinchu County, ten in Chiayi City, seven in Nantou County, six in Yunlin County, five in Miaoli County, three in Changhua County, and one in Penghu County.

Regarding the 90 new imported cases, 57 are male and 32 are female, while the gender of the other one is still under investigation. They range in age from under five to 79 years. Of the cases, five arrived from Vietnam, three from the US, two each from Palau and Indonesia, and one from Australia; the areas the remaining 77 cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between February 21 and April 17, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 7,724,748 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 7,688,405. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 35,983 cases. Of the 35,983 confirmed cases, 9,785 are imported; 26,144 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 198 cases (four newly added; four domestic cases were removed after epidemiological investigations found they tested negative) have been removed as confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 854 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 854 deaths, 840 are from domestic cases and the other 14 are from imported cases.
