CECC confirms 132 indigenous COVID-19 cases and 3 imported cases

On June 15, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 135 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 135 new cases, 132 are indigenous and the other three are imported. The CECC also announced eight deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 132 indigenous cases, 62 are men and the other 70 are women, aged between under 5 to 89 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between June 1 and June 14, 2021. Regarding those indigenous cases, New Taipei City reported most cases, at 65, and Taipei City had the second highest number, at 26. Miaoli County reported 18 cases; Taoyuan City reported 12; Keelung City reported 3 cases; Tainan City, Taichung City and Hualien County reported 2 each; Changhua County and Chiayi County reported 1 each.

Regarding the eight deaths announced today, they were three men and five women between 50 and 99 years old.

Regarding the three new imported cases, Case #13305 is an over 20-year-old male from Indonesia. He traveled to Taiwan from Indonesia for work on May 8. He tested negative for COVID-19 after completing the quarantine period and self-health management period. Due to work requirements, he underwent another test on June 13. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on June 15 (the CT value was 33).

Case #13332 and Case #13333 are a Taiwanese female in her 50s and a Taiwanese man under 10, respectively. They both returned to Taiwan from Peru on June 6. They developed a fever on June 11, and they reported their symptoms to the health authority which arranged for them to undergo testing on June 14. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on June 15.

The CECC reported that a total of 903,676 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 881,495. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 13,241 cases. Of the 13,241 confirmed cases, 1,158 are imported; 12,030 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated; and a cumulative total of 92 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 460 deaths
