CECC confirms 4 more imported cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from Kazakhstan, Egypt, the Philippines and India


On April 30, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced four new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those four new cases arrived in Taiwan from Kazakhstan (Case #1123), Egypt (Case #1124), the Philippines (Case #1125) and India (Case #1126).

Case #1123 is a Taiwanese male in his 50s. He visited Kazakhstan for official business in February and returned to Taiwan on March 30. As he planned to travel abroad for official business again, he visited the hospital to take a self-paid test on April 28. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 30 (the CT value was 33; he tested negative after given another RT-PCR test while hospitalized, and he tested positive for both IgM and IgG antibodies).

Case #1124 is an over 20-year-old sailor from the Philippines. The Filipino man boarded a ship for work in Egypt in March. He experienced loss of consciousness and shortness of breath on April 9. After he entered Taiwan on April 10, he sought medical attention. He was tested for COVID-19 three times while hospitalized, and the test results all came back negative. As he planned to travel abroad, he took a self-paid test on April 28; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 30 (the CT value was 30; he tested negative for antibodies).

Case #1125 is an over 30-year-old male migrant worker from the Philippines. The male migrant worker traveled to Taiwan for work on April 16. He was tested for COVID-19 on April 29, before completing the quarantine period; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 30.

Case #1126 is an over 30-year-old male from India. The Indian traveled to Taiwan for work on February 21. As he planned to return to India, he visited the hospital to take a self-paid test on April 27. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 30 (the CT value was 36; he had a CT value of 34 while hospitalized, and he tested negative for IgM and positive for IgG antibodies).
