CECC confirms 44,361 more COVID-19 cases, including 44,294 domestic cases and 67 imported cases


On May 8, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 44,361 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 44,361 new cases, 44,294 are domestic and 67 are imported (39 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced 12 deaths today.

Regarding the 44,294 new domestic cases, 21,081 are male and 23,200 are female, while the gender of the other 13 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 17,948 were reported in New Taipei City, 8,213 in Taipei City, 5,494 in Taoyuan City, 2,358 in Taichung City, 2,010 in Kaohsiung City, 1,322 in Tainan City, 1,310 in Keelung City, 884 in Yilan County, 695 in Pingtung County, 688 in Hsinchu County, 649 in Hualien County, 536 in Changhua County, 515 in Hsinchu City, 398 in Yunlin County, 375 in Miaoli County, 260 in Nantou County, 224 in Taitung County, 205 in Chiayi County, 111 in Chiayi City, 54 in Penghu County, 28 in Kinmen County, and 17 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 12 deaths announced today, they were five men and seven women ranging in age from 60 to above 90 years old. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 67 new imported cases, they are 33 men and 34 women ranging in age from under five to 59 years. Of the cases, three arrived from Japan, and one arrived from Canada; the areas the remaining 63 cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 10 and May 7, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 8,953,831 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,596,952. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 357,271 cases. Of the 357,271 confirmed cases, 11,872 are imported; 345,345 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 919 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 919 deaths, 904 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
