On April 2, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those three new cases arrived in Taiwan from Indonesia (Case #1038 and Case #1039) and Switzerland (Case #1040).
Case #1038 is an over 50-year-old man from Indonesia. The Indonesian man came to Taiwan to work as a fisherman on March 18. Before completing the quarantine period, he was tested for COVID-19 on March 31. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 2.
Case #1039 is an over 20-year-old fisherman from Indonesia. He traveled to Taiwan for work on March 11. Before completing the quarantine period, the Indonesian fisherman was tested on March 24, and the test result came back negative. He visited the hospital to take a self-paid COVID-19 test on March 31 for work requirements, and he tested positive. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 2 (he had a CT value of 37, and he tested positive for both IgM and IgG antibodies). He didn't experience any symptoms when entering Taiwan.
Case #1040 is an over 30-year-old man from Switzerland. The Swiss man traveled to Taiwan from his home country, transiting through Singapore, for work on March 13, and he arrived in Taiwan on March 14. He didn't experience any symptoms during the time period. Due to work requirements, he visited to the hospital to take a self-paid test on March 31; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 2 (the CT value was 32; he had a CT value of 37 the next day, and he tested positive for both IgM and IgG antibodies).
The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 191,042 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 188,956. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1039 cases. Of the 1039 confirmed cases, 923 are imported; 77 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 10 deaths, and 987 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 42 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
