CECC confirms 3 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from Philippines, US and Indonesia

On October 29, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those three cases arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines, the United States, and Indonesia, respectively.

Case #552 is a Taiwanese male in his 30s. The Taiwanese man traveled to the Philippines for work in December 2019 and returned to Taiwan on October 25, 2020. He voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers that he had experienced symptoms. He had his specimen collected upon arrival, and the test result came back negative. Because the Taiwanese man developed coughing, chest pain, and body aches on October 26, personnel at the group quarantine facility then arranged his medical care. A medical examination suggested that the Taiwanese man had pneumonia. He was given a COVID-19 test, and the case was reported. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 29.

Case #553 is a Taiwanese female in her 60s. The Taiwanese woman resided in the United States for an extended period of time (her most recent departure from Taiwan was in November 2019). When entering Taiwan on October 27, the Taiwanese woman voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers that she had come into contact with confirmed cases in the United States and experienced physical discomfort during the flight. She had her specimen collected upon arrival, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 29.

Case #554 is an Indonesian woman in her 20s. The Indonesian woman traveled to Taiwan for work on October 15 and underwent quarantine at a group quarantine facility after entry. She hasn't developed any suspected symptoms since arrival. The Indonesian woman underwent a COVID-19 test on October 28, before completing the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 29.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 101,218 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 99,950. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 553 cases. Of the 553 confirmed cases, 461 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; and 1 case has unknown sources of infection. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 513 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 33 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
