CECC confirms 2 more imported COVID-19 cases; asymptomatic migrant workers from Indonesia and the Philippines found to have COVID-19 before end of quarantine


On December 15, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those two new cases are an over 30-year-old female migrant worker from the Philippines (Case #742) and an over 30-year-old male migrant worker from Indonesia (Case #743).

The two migrant workers traveled to Taiwan for work from the Philippines and Indonesia respectively on November 30. They haven't developed any symptoms since arrival. They were tested for COVID-19 on December 13 before completing the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on December 15.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 116,235 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 114,168. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 742 cases. Of the 742 confirmed cases, 650 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 611 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 124 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
