CECC confirms 250 indigenous COVID-19 cases and 1 imported case


On June 12, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 251 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 251 new cases, 250 are indigenous and the other one is imported. The CECC also announced 26 deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 250 indigenous cases, 116 are men and the other 134 are women, aged between under 5 to over 100 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between May 28 and June 11, 2021. Regarding those indigenous cases, New Taipei City reported most cases, at 133, and Taipei City had the second highest number, at 65. Keelung City reported 16 cases; Taoyuan City reported 13; Miaoli County reported 9; Hualien County reported 3; Yilan County, Hsinchu City, Changhua County and Taichung City reported 2 each; Kaohsiung City, Yunlin County and Hsinchu County reported 1 each.

Regarding the 26 deaths announced today, they were 16 men and 10 women between 40 and over 100 years old.

Regarding the new imported case, Case #12698 is a Taiwanese female in her 40s. She returned to Taiwan from China on May 30. She developed a fever on June 9, and the health authority arranged for her to be tested on June 10. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on June 12.

The CECC reported that a total of 845,113 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 821,956. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 12,746 cases. Of the 12,746 confirmed cases, 1,154 are imported; 11,539 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated; and a cumulative total of 92 cases (including 5 newly added) have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 411 deaths.
