On June 26, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 80 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 80 new cases, 78 are indigenous and the other two are imported. The CECC also announced 13 deaths today.
The CECC pointed out that of the 78 indigenous cases, 36 are men and the other 42 are women, aged between under 5 to 89 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between June 11 and June 25, 2021. Regarding those indigenous cases, New Taipei City reported most cases, at 36, and Taipei City had the second highest number, at 30. Taoyuan City, Keelung City and Pingtung reported 3 cases each; Miaoli County, Changhua County and Hsinchu County reported 1 each.
Regarding the 13 deaths announced today, they were eight men and five women between 40 and 99 years old.
Regarding the two new imported cases, Case #14591 is Taiwan woman in her 30s. She returned to Taiwan from Japan on June 11, and was tested for COVID-19 on June 25 at the end of her quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on June 26.
Case #14619 is a Taiwanese woman in her 30s. She returned to Taiwan from the Philippines on June 11. She was tested for COVID-19 on June 25 at the end of her quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on June 26.
The CECC reported that a total of 1,243,683 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 1,227,748. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 14,545 cases. Of the 14,545 confirmed cases, 1,169 are imported; 13,323 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated; and a cumulative total of 102 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 623 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 623 deaths, 615 are indigenous cases and the other 8 are imported.
