CECC confirms 23,139 more COVID-19 cases, including 23,102 domestic cases and 37 imported cases

On May 3, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 23,139 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 23,139 new cases, 23,102 are domestic and 37 are imported (14 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced five deaths today.

Regarding the 23,102 new domestic cases, 11,193 are male and 11,899 are female, while the gender of the other 10 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to 99 years. Of those domestic cases, 8,278 were reported in New Taipei City, 4,806 in Taipei City, 3,604 in Taoyuan City, 1,220 in Keelung City, 1,196 in Taichung City, 818 in Kaohsiung City, 509 in Tainan City, 448 in Yilan County, 428 in Hualien County, 333 in Hsinchu County, 292 in Pingtung County, 254 in Yunlin County, 214 in Changhua County, 171 in Hsinchu City, 145 in Miaoli County, 102 in Taitung County, 87 in Chiayi County, 79 in Chiayi City, 73 in Nantou County, 22 in Penghu County, 15 in Kinmen County, and eight in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the five deaths announced today, they were four men and one woman ranging in age from 70 and 99 years. They were severe cases and had chronic diseases.

Regarding the 37 new imported cases, 20 are male and 16 are female, while the gender of the other one is under investigation. They range in age from under 10 to 89 years. The areas these cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 5 and May 2, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 8,602,849 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,426,123. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 173,942 cases. Of the 173,942 confirmed cases, 11,481 are imported; 162,407 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 876 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 876 deaths, 861 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
