CECC confirms 72,967 more COVID-19 cases, including 72,921 domestic cases and 46 imported cases


On June 9, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 72,967 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 72,967 new cases, 72,921 are domestic and 46 are imported. The CECC announced 211 deaths today.

Regarding the 72,921 new domestic cases, 34,527 are male and 38,358 are female, while the gender of the other 36 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years.

Of those domestic cases, 10,822 were reported in Kaohsiung City, 10,570 in Taichung City, 10,201 in New Taipei City, 6,355 in Tainan City, 6,298 in Taoyuan City, 5,266 in Changhua County, 5,129 in Taipei City, 3,130 in Pingtung County, 1,783 in Hsinchu County, 1,717 in Yunlin County, 1,712 in Miaoli County, 1,525 in Hsinchu City, 1,480 in Nantou County, 1,405 in Chiayi County, 1,285 in Yilan County, 1,127 in Hualien County, 983 in Keelung City, 937 in Chiayi City, 792 in Taitung County, 250 in Penghu County, 149 in Kinmen County, and five in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 211 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 126 men and 85 women ranging in age from 10 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 46 new imported cases, they were 22 men and 24 women ranging in age from under five to 69 years. Of the cases, three arrived from the US, two from Vietnam, and one each from the UAE and France. The areas the remaining 39 cases arrived from are being investigated.

The CECC reported that a total of 11,988,984 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 9,292,016. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 2,693,787 cases. Of the 2,693,787 confirmed cases, 13,321 are imported; 2,680,412 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 3,584 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 3,584 deaths, 3,569 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
