CECC confirms 4 more imported COVID-19 cases; four cases arrive in Taiwan from Indonesia and Philippines


On November 8, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced four new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those four cases (Cases #575-578) arrived in Taiwan from Indonesia and the Philippines.

Case #575 and Case #576 are two women from Indonesia, with their ages ranging between 30 and 50 years old. Those two women took the same flight to Taiwan to work on October 24. They were given COVID-19 tests on November 6 before completing the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on November 8. Those two women haven't developed any symptoms since arrival.

Case #577 is an over 20-year-old male from the Philippines. He traveled to Taiwan to work on October 16, and he hasn't developed symptoms since arrival. Before completing the quarantine period, the man was given a COVID-19 test, and he tested negative on October 29. After completing the quarantine period on October 31, the man stayed at a quarantine hotel for self-health management. He took a self-paid COVID-19 test arranged by his employment agency on November 5. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 8.

Case #578 is an over 10-year-old male from the Philippines. He traveled to Taiwan for studies on October 25, and he hasn't shown any symptoms since arrival. The Filipino student underwent a COVID-19 test on November 7, before completing the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 8. The CECC reported that those four new cases are currently hospitalized in isolation.

The CECC also reported that a cumulative total of 103,897 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 102,269. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 577 cases. Of the 577 confirmed cases, 485 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case#530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 524 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 46 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
