CECC confirms 89 more COVID-19 cases, including 52 domestic cases and 37 imported cases


On January 23, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 89 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 89 new cases, 52 are domestic and 37 are imported. The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the domestic cases, they are 32 men and 20 women, aged between under five and 79 years.

Regarding the 37 new imported cases, they are 17 men and 20 women, aged between under 10 and 69 years. 23 of them arrived in Taiwan from the US (12 cases), France (three cases), the UK (two cases), Denmark, India, Ukraine, the Philippines, Turkey, and Australia; the areas where the remaining 14 cases arrived are being investigated. They all arrived between January 8 and January 22, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 5,441,110 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 5,422,031. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 18,325 cases. Of the 18,325 confirmed cases, 3,368 are imported; 14,903 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 119 cases (two newly added; removed after testing negative the second time) have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 851 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 851 deaths, 838 are from domestic cases and the other 13 are from imported cases.
