CECC confirms 6 more COVID-19 cases, including 4 domestic cases and 2 imported cases


On August 12, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced six new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the six new cases, four are domestic and the other two are imported. The CECC reported one death today.

The CECC pointed out that of the four domestic cases (of whom, one tested positive while the case in home isolation or completed the isolation period), three are male and the other one is female, aged between 20 to 59 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between August 4 and August 9, 2021. Of those domestic cases, three cases were reported in Taipei City, and one case was reported in New Taipei City.

The CECC pointed out that the one death (Case #15379) announced today was an over 80-year-old man with chronic disease and history of contact with other confirmed cases.

Regarding the two new imported cases, Case #15927 is an American woman in her 20s. She traveled to Taiwan from the US for work on August 4, and began to experience a cough and an abnormal sense of taste on August 11. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 12.

Case #15928 is a British man in his 60s. He traveled to Russia from Taiwan for work on July 17 and returned to Taiwan on August 10. He was tested for COVID-19 at the airport, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 12. Both cases had been vaccinated before being diagnosed with COVID-19.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,289,602 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,272,067. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,820 cases. Of the 15,820 confirmed cases, 1,305 are imported; 14,462 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 108 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 817 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 817 deaths, 809 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
