Name-based rationing system for at-home COVID-19 test kits to be launched on April 28 and allow people to purchase test kits with their NHI card; starting May 1, people buying masks through name-based mask distribution system can purchase them at 145 pharmacies nationwide

On April 27, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that a name-based distribution system for at-home rapid test kits will be implemented on April 28, 2022. Key points about this distribution system for rapid test kits are listed below.

A. Sale of test kits: rapid test kits are sold through pharmacies, through the same sale channel as under the Name-based Mask Distribution System 1.0.

B. Where to buy: 4,909 NHI-contracted pharmacies and 58 district public health centers in rural areas across the country.

C. Who can buy: regardless of age, all individuals who have a National Health Insurance card/Resident Certificate can buy test kits.

D. Test kit quota: in each round, each NHI card can be used to buy test kits once (purchasing on behalf of other people is allowed); with five kits in one pack, each kit costs NT$100 and one pack costs NT$500.

E. Designated days for purchase: in line with the restrictions on mask purchases imposed in the initial stage of the Name-based Mask Distribution System 1.0, the last digit of the ID number of an individual will determine which days the individual can buy a rapid test kit. Individuals whose ID numbers end with an odd number can buy test kits on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and those whose ID numbers end with an even number can buy them on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while everyone can buy them on Sundays.

F. Quantity to be distributed: at least 50 million test kits, or 10 million packs.

G. Information on where to buy test kits: is available on the National Health Insurance Administration, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration, and the Federation of Taiwan Pharmacists Association websites.
