CECC confirms 10 more COVID-19 cases, including 8 domestic cases and 2 imported cases


On August 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 10 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 10 new cases, eight are domestic and the other two are imported. The CECC reported no deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the eight domestic cases (of whom, six tested positive while they were in home isolation or completed their isolation period), three are men and the other five are women, aged between 10 to 50 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between August 10 and August 15, 2021. Of those domestic cases, six cases were reported in New Taipei City, one in Taipei City, and one in Taoyuan City.

Regarding the two new imported cases, Case #15965 is a Taiwanese female in her teens. She returned to Taiwan from the US on August 2. She was tested for COVID-19 on August 14, before completing the quarantine period; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 16.

Case #15972 is an over 30-year-old male from Ghana. He lived in Taiwan for an extended period of time. He traveled to Ghana in March, and returned to Taiwan on August 1. He was tested for COVID-19 on August 15, before completing the quarantine period; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 16.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,361,186 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,343,668. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,862 cases. Of the 15,862 confirmed cases, 1,332 are imported; 14,477 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 821 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 821 deaths, 813 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
