CECC confirms 65,446 more COVID-19 cases, including 65,385 domestic cases and 61 imported cases

On May 12, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 65,446 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 65,445 new cases, 65,385 are domestic and 61 are imported (40 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced 17 deaths today

Regarding the 65,385 new domestic cases, 31,102 are male and 34,146 are female, while the gender of the other 137 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 23,788 were reported in New Taipei City, 10,751 in Taipei City, 10,039 in Taoyuan City, 3,830 in Taichung City, 3,261 in Kaohsiung City, 2,332 in Tainan City, 1,876 in Keelung City, 1,348 in Hsinchu County, 1,259 in Hualien County, 1,186 in Yilan County, 1,061 in Pingtung County, 1,000 in Changhua County, 851 in Hsinchu City, 760 in Miaoli County, 613 in Yunlin County, 392 in Taitung County, 362 in Chiayi County, 354 in Nantou County, 172 in Chiayi City, 78 in Kinmen County, 67 in Penghu County, and five in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 17 deaths announced today, they were nine men and eight women ranging in age from 60 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 61 new imported cases, they are 25 men and 36 women ranging in age from under 10 to 79 years. Of the cases, six arrived from the US, while the areas these cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 16 and May 11, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 9,284,358 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,712,480. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 570,870 cases. Of the 570,870 confirmed cases, 12,052 are imported; 558,764 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 968 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 968 deaths, 953 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
