On May 20, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 295 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 295 new cases, 286 are indigenous and the other nine are imported. Of the confirmed cases, one has died (Case #2683).

The CECC pointed out that of the 286 indigenous cases, 155 are men and the other 131 are women ranging in ages from under 5 to 99 years old. They began to develop symptoms/were tested between May 1 and May 19. Of 286 individuals, 157 reside in New Taipei City (40 in Zhonghe District); 87 in Taipei City (40 in Wanhua District); 17 in Taoyuan City; 8 in Yilan County; 6 in Changhua County; 5 in Keelung City; 2 in Kaohsiung City; 2 in Taichung City; 1 each in Hsinchu City and Yunlin County. The CECC also announced one death (Case #2683) today. The case is a woman in her 70s.

Regarding imported cases, the CECC confirmed 9 imported cases, and the cases arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines (6 cases), the US, South Africa and Indonesia. Case #2610 is a Taiwanese male in his 50s. He arrived in Taiwan from the US on May 9 and began to experience symptoms on May 15 during the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 20.

Cases #2611-2614, Case #2826, and Case #2828 are six Filipino migrant workers, four of whom are male, and the other two are female. They are between 20 and 39 years old. Those Filipino migrant workers arrived in Taiwan between May 5 and May 6. They were tested on May 19 before completing the quarantine period, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on May 20.

Case #2615 is a Taiwanese female in her 60s. She arrived in Taiwan from South Africa on May 11. After arrival, she was tested for COVID-19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 20.

Case #2827 is an over 30-year-old male migrant worker from Indonesia. He arrived in Taiwan from Indonesia on May 6. He was tested on May 19 before completing the quarantine period, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 20.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 297,481 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 265,558. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 2,825 cases. Of the 2,825 confirmed cases, 1,103 are imported; 1,669 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated; and 8 cases (Case #530, Case #1589, Case #1676, Case #1591, Case #1886, Case #2067, Case #2068 and Case #2528) have been removed (those case numbers are not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 15 deaths.
