On August 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those two cases are an over 30-year-old female (Case #483) and an over 40-year-old male (Case #484). 

Case #483 visited Australia for work in February. The female case developed a runny nose, stuffy nose, and cough on August 6. She returned to Taiwan from Australia on August 14. The female case voluntarily reported her suspected symptoms to airport quarantine officers when entering Taiwan. After she had her specimen collected at the airport, the case was taken to a group quarantine facility. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 16.

Case #484 visited the Philippines for work in February. The male case developed a cough on August 8 and experienced a fever, headache, severe cough, and loss of sense of taste on August 12. He took medications by himself without seeking medical attention. The case then developed diarrhea on August 13. He returned to Taiwan from the Philippines on August 14. The male case voluntarily reported his suspected symptoms to airport quarantine officers when entering Taiwan. After he had his specimen collected at the airport, the case was taken to a group quarantine facility. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 16. The case is currently hospitalized in isolation for medical treatment.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 84,579 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 83,532. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 484 cases. Of 484 confirmed cases in Taiwan, 392 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship, and 1 case has yet to be determined.
