「Manual for clinical specimen collection」was published according to article 46, the Control of Communicable Diseases Act in order to ascertain the qualities of collection and delivery of clinical specimen for the following correct laboratory diagnosis. This manual included eleven chapters. The first chapter defined the common rules for clinical specimen, the collectors, holding containers, and specimen handling. The second chapter described the purpose and timing of collecting clinical specimen as well as the conditions for transportation. The third chapter described the detail procedures of specimen collection. The fourth chapter explained the SOPs for packing and transportation. The fifth chapter introduced the SOPs for decontamination of leaking and spill during transportation. The sixth chapter mentioned the disinfection of used packing containers. The seventh chapter depicted information on the location of the diagnostic laboratories and days required for diagnosis. The eighth and ninth chapters provided the information of Taiwan CDC’s laboratories. The tenth chapter narrated the airport fever screening procedures. The last chapter reviewed the process and specimen collections for suspected infectious disease autopsy.
