Enterovirus Infection with Severe Complications in Taiwan - Update 51


January 1, 2013--As of January 1, 2013, 153 cases (including 2 deaths) of enterovirus infection with severe complications have been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC from 2012 January 1st to 2013 January 1st ; two were caused by CA2, one was caused by CB3, one was caused by Echo6, three were caused by EV71 and CA2 co-infection, EV71 and CB4 co-infection and EV71 and CB3 co-infection respectively, and the others were caused by EV71. In 2011, there were 59 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications; one case was caused by CA10 and the others were caused by EV71. 10 cases confirmed in 2012 aged 10-17 years old. The other 143 cases are aged below 10 years. (See Table 1(pdf file)Fig.1(pdf file) displays the geographical distribution of the cases according to their residence. 

No case was newly confirmed in Week 52 (2012 December 19th to 2013 January 1st ). (See Fig. 2(pdf file))
