Enterovirus Infection with Severe Complications in Taiwan - Update 5


February 5, 2013--As of February 5, 2013, 1 case of enterovirus infection with severe complications has been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC in 2013; this case was caused by Coxsackie A6 (CA6) and aged below 2 years. (See Table 1) Fig.1 displays the geographical distribution of the case according to the residence. In 2012, there were 153 cases (including 2 deaths) of enterovirus infection with severe complications; among 153 confirmed cases there were 149 cases caused by EV71.


One case was confirmed in Week 5 (January 30 to February 5). This case is a 16-month-old girl in Hsinchu County. Her infection was caused by CA6 and she had been discharged. (See Fig. 2)
