March 17, 2009--As of March 17, 2009, 9 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications had been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC. Among these 9 confirmed cases, 8 cases had been discharged and 1 was in ICU. Those confirmed cases were all below 5 years of age. (see Table 1(pdf file)), and 2 cases each were located in the northern and central area of Taiwan, 5 in the southern area of Taiwan. (see Fig. 1(pdf file))

During Week 11 (March 11 to March 17), 1 case was newly confirmed. This case was a male and aged below 3, he was caused by EV71, and as of March 17, he had been discharged. This case was reported in Kaohsiung County. (See Fig. 2(pdf file))
