20 January 2009--As of January 20, 2009, 2 enterovirus infection with severe complications cases have been reported and confirmed. Among these 2 confirmed cases, 1 case was still hospitalized (in ICU), 1 case was discharged. These 2 confirmed cases are aged below 5 years (See Table 1(pdf file)), and each 1 case is located in the northern and central area of Taiwan. (See Fig. 1(pdf file))

During week 3 (January 14 to January 20), 2 cases were newly confirmed. Both 2 cases are caused by EV71, and as of January 20, 1 case was in ICU and 1 case was discharged. Both 2 cases are male and aged below 4. Each 1 case was reported from Hsinchu City and Taichung County. (See Fig. 2(pdf file))
