Enterovirus Infection with Severe Complications in Taiwan - Update 22


June 15, 2010--As of June 15, 2010, 11 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications had been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC. Among these 11 confirmed cases, 9 had been discharged and 2 were in ICU. Those confirmed cases were all under 5 years old (see Table 1(pdf file)). Seven cases were from the northern part of Taiwan, and four were from the southern. (see Fig. 1(pdf file))

Two cases were confirmed in Week 23 (June 9 to June 15). They are 5-year-old girl from Taoyuan County and newborn boy from Kaohsiung County. Their infection was caused by EV 71 and Coxsackie B1 virus, the girl had been discharged and the newborn boy was still in ICU. (see Fig. 2(pdf file))
