December 20, 2011--As of December 20, 2011, 49 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications had been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC. These cases are aged below 10 years (See Table 1(pdf file)) and reside in the northern, central, eastern and southern areas of Taiwan. (See Fig. 1(pdf file))

Six cases were confirmed in Week 50 (December 14 to December 20). They are 4-year-old girl and 5-month-old boy from Chiayi City, 4-year-old boy from Hsinchu City, 7-year-old boy from Taichung City, 2-year-old boy from Kaohsiung City, and 23-month-old boy from Yunlin County. Their infections were all caused by EV71. The 5-month-old boy from Chiayi City was still in intensive care unit, and the rest of them had been discharged. (See Fig. 2(pdf file))
