October 4, 2011--As of October 4, 2011, 12 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complications had been reported and confirmed by Taiwan CDC. These cases are aged below 10 years (See Table 1(pdf file)) and reside in the northern, central, eastern and southern areas of Taiwan. (See Fig. 1(pdf file))

Three cases were confirmed in Week 39 (September 28 to October 4). They are 4-year-old boy from Taoyuan County, 5-year-old girl from Yunlin County and 2-year-old girl from Kinmen County. Their infections were caused by EV 71, the boy from Taoyuan County and the girl from Yunlin County had been discharged and the 2-year-old girl from Kinmen County was still in intensive care unit.
